It’s approaching 6 am, the sun is coming up, and I’m still wide awake. I did get an hour or two of sleep earlier before stomach pain woke me up and I called off yet again. This is getting old. My oncologist doesn’t seem concerned about the insomnia , but I am. I do have an appointment with my PCP next week and hopefully we can find a solution, although I don’t know if it will involve more drugs. I’ve had some weird experiences on Ambien, and Benadryl just makes me dopey for hours after I wake, something that’s not good in my line of work. Mabye there’s something that will work better...

I feel you. I’ve been getting migraines in the middle of the night that wake me up for hours.
Hope you find some relief soon. By the way, my wife had an insomnia issue and it turned out to be a combo of low thyroid and magnesium deficiency. She got on a thyroid med and magnesium supplements and boom - sleeps like a baby. Seems like insomnia often can be hormonal related . Not that I’m a doctor (well, doctor of love, but that’s another story).
Good luck.

Can you get medical marijuana where you are?

That sucks. I managed to get decent sleep last night for the first time this week.

Thanks. I get frequent blood work done, so I’ll ask my PCP next week if the results show any deficiency that might be causing this. I’m not a morning person, and this month my shift starts at 0500 four out of five days. If they put me back on nights next month it might cease to be an issue...

I have lots of good Scotch and Bourbon, but with all of the drugs I'm on, especially the chemo, I have to abstain :(

I think they just passed a law last year allowing it , but it probably hasn’t been implemented yet. That’s part of the problem with living in the Bible Belt, but at least the citizenry are coming around.
Plus, I work in public transport, although not as a driver. They still have serious rules about random drug testing and zero tolerance, even for us office types. A friend of mine, a janitor, was let go for a positive test after an accident, even though he was not under the influence (he hadn’t smoked for 60 days, but the tests (and rules) are too stupid to differentiate between someone that’s under the influence and someone that uses recreationally on their own time). It’s just not fair.

How’s you’re mental health? I have anxiety and depression and it affects my ability to sleep and stay asleep. Maybe talking to someone or treating that could help if that is affecting you.

My mental health is pretty good despite all the recent setbacks - cancer, ulcers, epilepsy, close friend dying recently , cash shortages, etc. I’ve got a job I enjoy (although I haven’t been there as much as I’d like) with supportive co-workers and management, close family, good doctors. I am on an SSRI right now and I think that’s helping me cope. I’m a pretty mellow guy and just roll with the punches, and I think that attitude has helped me through various changes and upheavals.
